At the interface of technology and science, exciting things are happening. Throw in the exceptional talent housed in New York City's academic institutions and you have a recipe for something fantastic.
GRO-Biotech (Graduate Research Organizations for Biotechnology) is connecting the strong intellectual capital of New York's top graduate research institutions with the growing biotechnology and pharmaceutical presence in the tri-state area. In support of this mission, we are hosting conferences and networking events to connect scientific leaders in industry with the innovators of tomorrow in academia.
Founded in 2015, GRO-Biotech is a coalition of graduate biotechnology organizations from the top life sciences programs in the NYC metro area, with a reach of over 2000 graduate students, medical students, postdoctoral researchers, entrepreneurs, and clinicians.
Our mission is to fill the missing link between industry and academia. We do this by providing our members with opportunities to learn about the numerous careers in and around the life sciences that they might not otherwise encounter in a traditional science training program.
EARLY-CAREER SCIENTISTS + INDUSTRY LEADING COMPANIES
= SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION
This formula has driven biotechnology excellence in cities such as Boston and San Francisco, why not New York too? We are helping to nurture the nascent biotechnology scene in NYC through events ranging from casual social hours to half and full day conferences featuring some of the foremost thoughtleaders and biggest life science companies within the tri-state area and beyond. All of our events are free for students and postdocs, representing NYC's first truly open platform for connecting young professionals with the biotechnology industry.
Join GRO-Biotech for a day of exciting panel conversations, insightful keynotes, and over three hours dedicated to networking with peers and industry leaders who are creating the next breakthroughs in science and technology. Register to attend at bit.ly/GRO-2019
Building on the previous GRO Biopharma Conferences, which had around 400 registered attendees each, again we prepared a fantastic lineup of speakers from Big Pharma to Biotech Startups. We are excited to bring together the academic, medical and industry communities. This year we managed to have 300 people at the event, enjoying our one-day program.
Envisagenics, Inc. is a bioinformatics company spun out of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. The company’s mission is to boost the creation of new therapies for human diseases by reducing the complexity of biomedical big data into plausible solutions. Envisagenics focuses on the discovery of RNA therapeutics. Envisagenics presented their science and company in hopes to inspire potential applicants.
The unprecedented scale of the first annual GRO Biopharma Conference, with more than 450 registered attendees, confirmed our community’s interest in hearing more about the ground-breaking work being done in industry. Last year’s event featured exceptional speakers from Pfizer, Regeneron, Intercept, Celmatix, and Medidata.
This year, we aim to build on our success and provide further impact to the NYC biotech community. We’re excited to host a new lineup of innovative companies, including representatives from large and small pharma and biotech as well as the venture capital community!
Join us for an afternoon of keynotes, presentations and networking with peers and industry leaders who are creating the next scientific breakthroughs. We’ve carefully crafted an incredible lineup of presenters who are prepared to share their visions of the future and how their companies are leading the charge.

We are local biotech. We are pushing biotechnology to encompass diverse applications that impact life daily: Think novel foods, advanced materials, more effective medicines, and efforts to bring the benefits of biotechnology to everyone.
Our goal is to develop an ecosystem for biotechnology that reflects the multifaceted nature of New York City, engaging all of its unique resources, networks, and diverse communities. We believe a diverse biotech ecosystem holds the potential to create immense value for the city’s economic future.

My goals with the podcast are to help people sitting on the fence (don’t do that) or about to get into biotech/related science field to successfully navigate their pathway to success by interviewing amazing people and covering large topics at the same time. I also want to shine a light on people doing amazing work every day to help out each and every one of us. We are in a great age of innovation. Benjamin Franklin had a quote that went, “Many people die at 25 and are buried 50 years later.” I don’t want this to happen to anyone. Let’s all work together to build a better world!
